Environmental impact
We try to reduce the environmental impact of our operations in every way possible. Obviously, we're not perfect, but we do apply this ethos when looking at every aspect of our business.
Energy
We source 100% renewable electricity from Good Energy, then we do our best to minimise its use.
We insulated our building, with help from Changeworks. We profiled the energy consumption of all our electrical devices with portable meters to root out the kilowatt-guzzlers. From light bulbs to computers, we choose and operate our equipment in the most energy-efficient manner we can (e.g. using excess warmth from our comms room to heat the building).
The websites we build are hosted on carbon-neutral web servers and we use carbon-neutral telecoms.
Transport
We use bicycle couriers wherever possible, falling back on gas-powered and electric vans where necessary - all from City Couriers.
We all get to work on foot, by bike or on the bus. We usually do longer business journeys by train, but if we need a car (e.g. to carry equipment), we hire it from the City Car Club. Our policy of local sourcing of printing also helps reduce our transport impact.
Waste-minimisation
Our recyclable waste is collected by Changeworks or recycled elsewhere. Printer cartridges, paper, envelopes, bottles, cardboard - none of it goes in the bin. The tiny amount that isn't recycled doesn't fill the smallest-size wheelie bin with the minimum collection schedule available. Our waste-minimisation efforts won us a Keep Edinburgh Clean Gold Award from the City of Edinburgh Council.
Recycled materials
We use recycled paper and stationery wherever possible. Environmentally-friendly catering, cleaning materials and toiletries come from GreenCity Wholefoods (delivered in bulk twice a year to save transport impact).
We are experts at sourcing recycled printing and products for our clients.
