Managing your content

No sooner is a website published, than you need to update it. The site might have a notice board or a news section. It might refer to your latest publications. Your organisational details might change.

So what are the options for keeping your site up-to-date?

With a small site, we can do this for you. You email us the changes you want to make and we do the rest.

For a larger site, however, this gets cumbersome. What's needed is a means for you to update the site yourself. This is where a Content Management System (CMS) comes in.

What is a Content Management System?

A CMS puts you in control. You no longer have to get us to add every news item or text edit. Instead, your normal web browser displays a user-friendly interface which lets you add and alter text, pictures and other content.

We use two main content management systems for most of the sites we build: MODX and WordPress. Both are easily customised to achieve the design and functionality you require, and both are open source systems, meaning that there are no extra license fees to pay for the software.

Training and support

Using a CMS does mean that you need to dedicate some staff resources to keeping the site current. Updating the site does not require specialist knowledge — anyone who is a competent web user should find it easy. However, some training is needed for best results (eg to maintain accessibility) and this is something else we can provide.
